National Library Week Celebrates 50th Anniversary Wednesday, April 09, 2008: Communities across the country will celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries, librarians and library workers by offering special programs and services during National Library Week, April 13-19.
Smithsonian Exhibition Explores the Diverse Food Traditions of America Wednesday, April 02, 2008: Museums in Elloree, Belton, Lake City, Johnston, and Edisto Island, in cooperation with the Humanities Council SC, will host the local showing of Key Ingredients: America by Food, a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition which delves into the historical, regional and social traditions that merge in everyday meals and celebrations of the American table.
Celebrate National Poetry Month at the SC Center for the Book Tuesday, April 01, 2008: On Thursday April 24, 2008 from noon to 1:00 p.m., the South Carolina Center for the Book located at the South Carolina State Library will host Susan Meyers, Ray McManus and Ed Madden, winners of the South Carolina Poetry Book Prize.
Students to Participate in Annual Read-In Tuesday, April 01, 2008: Approximately 1100 students from South Carolina K-12 schools will march from the State Library to the State House grounds on Thursday, April 10 at 10:00 am to celebrate the importance of reading and libraries.

Great Stories CLUB Grants Announced Tuesday, March 25, 2008: The American Library Association’s Public Programs Office, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), and Oprah’s Angel Network have selected 173 libraries to receive Great Stories CLUB grants, which will support book discussion programs targeting troubled teens.
SC Librarian Selected to Serve on National Museum and Library Services Board Tuesday, March 25, 2008: The U.S. Senate confirmed four presidential nominees to serve as members of the National Museum and Library Services Board March 13, 2008. The board advises the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an independent federal agency that is the primary source of federal support for the nation's museums and libraries.
State Library Announces 2007 Notable State Government Documents Awards Monday, March 17, 2008: The South Carolina State Library is pleased to announce the selection of the most notable South Carolina state government documents of 2007. The selection is announced annually on or near Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.
