More Than $2.2 BILLION Appropriated to Support Educational Opportunities for South Carolinians of All Ages

Since January 2002 through June 2010, the South Carolina General Assembly has appropriated more than $2.2 BILLION in South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) net proceeds towards programs for higher education, kindergarten through 12th grade students and other community education initiatives in the Palmetto State.

Fiscal year 2008-09 was another successful year for the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL). Total transfers to the State Treasurer for deposit into the Education Lottery Account (ELA) exceeded $260 million. This surpassed the revenue goal set by the Board of Economic Advisors by over $8.0 million.

South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) Executive Director Ernie Passailaigue has been elected Chairman of the Powerball Group and Vice President of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). Passailaigue was elected to the position by the 31 member lotteries that offer the Powerball game.

The South Carolina Education Lottery’s (SCEL) Executive Director, Ernie Passailaigue, became President of the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) after an election held during the NASPL meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, in Louisville, Kentucky. NASPL was founded in 1971 and has grown into an active, professional association representing 51 lottery organizations in North America.
