SC Arts Commission Rewards Outstanding SC Artists With Fellowships
The South Carolina Arts Commission Board of Commissioners has today approved the agency’s 2006–2007 Individual Artist Fellowship Awards. Six Fellows will receive $2,500 in recognition of their superior artistic merit.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Arts Commission Board of Commissioners has today approved the agency’s 2006–2007 Individual Artist Fellowship Awards. Each Fellow receives $2,500 in recognition of their superior artistic merit. Alternates have also been named in each category. This year’s Fellows are:

Poetry
Sheila Joan Tombe, Beaufort, Beaufort County
Alternate:  Alexander Banks Richardson, Spartanburg, Spartanburg County

Prose
Scott Yarbrough, Mt. Pleasant, Charleston County
Alternate:  Evelyn Beck, Anderson, Anderson County

Theatre /Acting
Monica Wyche, Columbia, Richland County
Alternate:  Paul Jacques Kaufmann, Columbia, Richland County

Dance
Kathryn Smoak, Columbia, Richland County
Alternate:  Angela M. Gallo, Columbia, Richland County

Crafts
Peter Lenzo, Columbia, Richland County
Alternate:  James D. Connell, Rock Hill, York County

Visual Arts
Patricia Lee Brady, Greenville, Greenville County
Alternate:  Janet Orselli, Columbia, Richland County

Fellows and alternates are selected through a competitive, anonymous application process. Out-of-state review panelists make recommendations for selections based solely on a review of work samples. The panel’s recommendations are approved by the board of the SC Arts Commission.

Individual artists working in visual arts, craft, media production and screenwriting are invited to apply for the 2007–2008 Fellowships. The deadline to apply is Oct. 1.
