Press Release:

COLUMBIA, SC — The South Carolina Arts Commission has named Milly Hough to the new position of communications director.

Hough, formerly assistant director of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ South Carolina office, will plan and direct communication strategies for long range public information programs designed to build and support participation in the arts throughout South Carolina.

“One of the Art Commission’s key goals is to create and implement a comprehensive, long range communication plan for the agency,” said SC Arts Commission Executive Director Suzette Surkamer. “Establishing and maintaining a constant communication channel between the agency and artists, arts organizations, and the public statewide is key to ensuring a thriving arts environment, and Milly’s career background and skills are a perfect match for what we want to accomplish as South Carolina’s leading arts organization.

“She is a seasoned manager with a deep background in strategic planning, marketing and public relations, making her an excellent complement to our team.”

A South Carolina native, Hough has a broad base of experience in communications, public relations, fund raising and administration, gathered during a career in nonprofits and state government. A 1985 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Hough has worked for the South Carolina School Boards Association, South Carolina Department of Archives and History, Baptist Medical Center Foundation and the South Carolina State Museum Foundation.
