COLUMBIA, S.C. – From demonstrating the art of African dance to playing the Australian didgeridoo, teaching artists from all disciplines will showcase their skills at the 2007 S.C. Arts in Education Booking Conference from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23 at the Columbia Conference Center, 169 Laurelhurst Avenue, Columbia. Educators and others interested in weaving the arts into traditional programs can attend to meet more than 100 artists and see examples of their work and past residencies.
The event provides a setting where educators and others can view work examples, and in some cases demonstrations, by conference artists, who are all listed on the Arts Commission’s Roster of Approved Artists. Gail Paulik, a reading teacher at M.C. Riley Elementary in Bluffton, S.C., contracts six week-long residencies each year. She says, “The conference provides a perfect place to meet new artists and allows me to touch base with resident artists who I've already booked for the upcoming year. With a classroom full of kids all day, I have a hard time reaching artists who are normally on the road themselves.”
Those interested in attending the conference should visit www.southcarolinaarts.com/booking and click on the “Sponsor/Attendees registration” link to print a registration form. Completed forms and payment should then be mailed to:
