SC Arts Commission Awards Grants to Support Eight Upcoming Arts Projects
COLUMBIA , S.C. – The South Carolina Arts Commission has awarded $8,000 in Quarterly Project Support grants to six organizations and two artists across the state.
Quarterly grants are available to arts organizations and to individual artists for a wide variety of quality arts projects and programs, and/or for professional development opportunities. The program is funded in part by a gift from the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina, www.ccfgives.org.
Fourth Quarter Project Support grant recipients are:
Quarterly Grants for Organizations
- City of Dillon, Dillon County, $1,000 to create a public sculpture exhibit in downtown Dillon
- Keowee Chamber Music Festival, Pickens County, $1,000 to hold the Keowee for Kids: Chamber Music to Educate Children Project in June
- Acercamiento Hispano de Carolina Del Sur, Richland County , $1,000 to plan the organization's first Latino Youth Poetry Initiative
- Clarendon County Community Development Corporation, Clarendon County, $1,000 to help organize the Learn, Excel, Advance, Progress (LEAP) Program for Clarendon County youth this summer
- New Works Group, Horry County, $1,000 to stage the Litchfield Follies theatrical production of original plays and music created by local aspiring playwrights in June, July and August
- Pine Tree Players, Fairfield County, $1,000 to produce Shakesfest 2006 at Fortune Springs Park in Winnsboro in April
Quarterly Grants for Artists
- Connie Lippert, Oconee County, $1,000 to attend Convergence 2006, the biennial meeting of the Handweaver's Guild of America in Grand Rapids, Mich., in June
- Jillian E. Carway, Dorchester County, $1,000 to construct a salt kiln to fire her ceramic work
