Columbia, S.C.—One of the most unique collections of primary source Civil War documents found in the last one hundred years, the recently discovered papers of General Colin J. McRae, the Confederacy’s chief financial agent in Europe, provide new evidence on the Confederacy’s ability to equip its soldiers with foreign arms, munitions, and supplies.
Several of these rare documents are now on exhibit, along with examples of foreign equipment purchased by the Confederacy. This exhibit closes October 5, 2007.
Founded in 1896, the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is the oldest museum in the Columbia area and is an agency of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board, accredited by the American Association of Museums. The museum focuses on South Carolina’s military history from the Revolutionary War to the present War on Terror.
