Press Release:

The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Museum will change its name July 1, 2006 to the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum.  The addition of “military” to the title better reflects the museum’s overall mission to preserve South Carolina’s military history from the colonial period to the present.

Founded in 1896 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is the oldest museum in the Columbia area and is an agency of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board, accredited by the American Association of Museums. The museum is located at 301 Gervais Street in the Columbia Mills Building.
