FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is increasing tickets prices in an effort to offset state budget cuts.

Beginning February 4, 2009, a new pricing structure will be implemented.  Admission for adults 18-61 will be $5.00, an increase of $1.00  Youth 13-17 will cost $2.00. Children 12 and under will remain free.

The museum will also begin offering discounts for senior citizens and the military, which includes veterans and those on active duty. These categories will be $4.00.  Admission on the first Sunday of the month will remain $1.00.  The museum upholds its commitment to its educational mission by continuing to offer free admission to school group tours.

“Raising prices at this time will allow us to recoup some of the revenue that we have lost during recent budget reductions and to continue offering high-quality exhibits for students and the public,” said museum Director Allen Roberson.  The museum last increased general admission prices in 2005.

The discount for military and senior visitors is based on feedback from a recent comprehensive visitor survey project.  “The new pricing structure allows us honor a major part of our loyal visitor base - our American service men and women,” Roberson said. “We want to show our appreciation and respect to them at this time, and to also stay focused on our education mission for South Carolina school children.”

The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, which is in the same building as the State Museum, also offers a joint ticket option.  The $9.00 joint ticket provides admission to both museums within a seven day time span, which is a savings of $3.00 for those wanting to visit the two institutions.

Founded in 1896, the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is the oldest museum in the Columbia area. The museum focuses on South Carolina’s military history from the Revolutionary War to the current War on Terror.
