The SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum recently received two awards from the South Carolina Council for the Social Studies.  On October 3, 2008, at the 2008 Social Studies Conference awards ceremony, Curator of Education Joe Long was presented with the annual Program of Excellence and Friends of Social Studies awards.  Allen Roberson, Museum Director, and Courtney Butrym, education graduate assistant, were also present at the event.  The Program of Excellence award recognized the museum’s innovative educational programming for the exhibit, “Forgotten Stories: SC Fights the Great War.” 

The museum offers a variety of educational programs and tour options, including Boy/Girl Scout programs and African-American focused tours.  Visit the museum’s educational resource website, http://www.crrteach.sc.gov/, for more tour information.

Founded in 1896, the SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is the oldest museum in the Columbia area. The museum focuses on South Carolina’s military history from the Revolutionary War to the present War on Terror.
