Columbia, SC -  Poly-America L.P., a leader in the highest quality polyethylene products and a national supplier of trash bags, geosynthetics, and construction film, has announced plans to locate a new manufacturing plant in Chester County that will create 400 jobs. The new plant will be called Poly-East and represents a $100 million investment by the Grand Prairie, Texas-based company.

“We have had extremely positive experiences, and look forward to continuing to work with Chester County, the State of South Carolina, Duke Energy Carolinas, and Lancaster and Chester Railway,” said George M. Hall, Poly-America Executive Vice President. “Locating our next manufacturing and distribution facility in Chester will enable us to meet a number of our strategic logistical objectives and will facilitate us in better servicing our customers in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast regions. Chester additionally offers a talented workforce from which to draw the 400+ full-time employees that we expect to employ once we reach full operating capacity here.”

“Today’s announcement is another significant step forward in our efforts to create jobs and raise income levels for South Carolinians," said Gov. Mark Sanford. “With 125,000 more people working in this state than there were in 2003, we remain committed to continue growing our economy through bettering the soil conditions for business creation in our state.”

“Poly-America’s decision to locate in Chester County reaffirms the Department of Commerce’s continued success in recruiting high-paying jobs to rural South Carolina,” said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. “Job recruitment in rural South Carolina is 64 percent higher than last year’s record-setting rural recruitment numbers, and part of this success is due to the team approach of the Chester County public officials and the private business community coming together with Commerce to make it happen.”

“We are delighted to welcome a growing, family-oriented company like Poly-America to Chester County and the Charlotte region,” said Tommy Martin, chairman of the Chester County Council. “Their commitment to invest in our community and create much needed jobs is additional validation that Chester County is open for business.”

“Bringing Poly-America to our county would not have been possible without the continued and collaborative efforts of the Chester County team – the County, South Carolina Department of Commerce, the Chester Development Association, L&C Railroad, Duke Energy, and the Charlotte Regional Partnership,” added Chester County Manager William A. Frick. “We welcome Poly-America as our newest corporate citizen and wish them every success!”

“Actively marketing and promoting Chester County’s unique assets and advantages that can’t be replicated anywhere else in the Charlotte region, has been the goal of our leadership, partners and allies. I believe that we are being successful in that effort when we are able to attract an exceptional company such as Poly-America!” said Karlisa Parker, Economic Development Director for Chester County.

“Chester County has the assets that growing companies are looking for in a location – a trainable workforce, competitive costs, and excellent transportation infrastructure,” stated Brian Singleton, chairman of the Chester Development Association. “We are pleased that Poly-America recognized the value of those assets and made a decision to become a part of our community.”

According to Charlotte Regional Partnership, Poly-America is an exceptional company and is a wonderful fit for Chester County and the Charlotte USA region. This was a hard fought competitive project and adds to a growing list of plastics companies within the region.
