Aiken, SC -  Newman Technology South Carolina Inc. broke ground today on a $4 million facility expansion that will enable it to increase capacity and create 40 new jobs. Located in the Ventures Industrial Park, the new building will provide an additional 47,000 sq ft of operating capacity.

Newman Technology opened its Aiken facility in 2001 and is a major supplier of exhaust system, muffler, door sash, luggage rack and swing arm parts used in the ATV and automotive industries. As a tier one supplier, Newman produces a number of stampings, has the capability to weld to assemblies and distributes parts directly to its customers, which include Honda Alabama, Honda South Carolina, Honda Power Equipment, Komatsu and Suzuki.

“As our customer base continues to grow, we remain committed to adding cutting-edge technology and additional capacity that will enable us to not only manufacture a quality product but also support our just-in-time initiatives by helping us to further reduce inventory and lead time,” said Richard Engasser, Newman’s Aiken plant manager. “The quality workforce in Aiken and the willingness of local and state officials to work with us on this expansion makes today’s groundbreaking especially gratifying. We look forward to being an active part of this community.”

“Today’s expansion by Newman Technology shows that our efforts to better the soil conditions for businesses are paying dividends," said Governor Mark Sanford. “With more than 134,000 people working in our state than there were four years ago, we remain committed to continuing those efforts to keep creating jobs and opportunity for South Carolinians."

“Newman Technology’s need for more capacity and employees is positive news for the Aiken community,” said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. “At Commerce, we are dedicated to working with our state’s existing companies and our local economic development allies to make sure more companies are able to grow and prosper as their customer base grows.”

"When Newman first announced six years ago, they committed to 100 jobs. Today, Newman has over 300 associates and will add another 40 jobs for our citizens with this announcement. With the recent closures, this expansion of Newman Technology is welcome news," said Ronnie Young, Chairman of Aiken County Council.

"This announcement by Newman Technology continues the expansion of our ever-growing metal working sector,” said John Troutman, Chairman of the Economic Development Partnership. “Newman's persistent growth indicates its confidence in the ability of our community to provide the skilled workers the company requires."

"We are grateful for Newman Technology's continued confidence in the Aiken Community and their continued growth,” said Aiken Mayor Fred Cavanaugh. “It is clearly a sign that their team of employees is safely providing quality work at a reasonable price. The City of Aiken sends congratulations for the new addition to their plant!"

Newman Technology South Carolina is one of two American divisions of Japanese parent company Sankei Giken Kogyo Co., Ltd. The other division is located in Mansfield, OH. Newman Technology South Carolina enjoyed sales revenue in excess of $85 million in 2005 and has a workforce of more than 300 people.
