Press Release:

COLUMBIA - The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Region 7 has received an Honorable Mention in the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, the agency reported today.

“The Alfred P. Sloan awards program recognizes employers across the nation for workplace flexibility and effectiveness practices,” said John Simkovich, public health director of DHEC’s Region 7 which serves Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties. “DHEC is the kind of place where we care for the needs of our staff just as we care for the needs of our clients. We make every attempt to be flexible to meet the needs of today‘s diverse workforce.”

Simkovich said the awards program recognizes organizations striving to find new ways to make work “work,” in today’s economy. The Sloan Awards honor organizations across the country that are using workplace flexibility as a strategy to increase workplace effectiveness and yield positive business results, and to help employees succeed at work and at home.

“This recognition puts us in the top 20 percent of employers nationally in terms of flexible work policies and culture,” Simkovich said.
