COLUMBIA, S.C. - Nicole Broerman, M.D., a pediatrician at Sea Island Pediatrics and Beaufort Memorial Hospital, has been given the annual S.C. Physician Award for Outstanding Service, the state Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“Dr. Broerman approaches her pediatric practice with children and families in a thorough, holistic manner, incorporating all aspects of the child’s and family’s needs,” said Earl Hunter, DHEC’s commissioner. “She knows her patients well, remembers their names and situations and follows up on their care.”
According to Hunter, Dr. Broerman has worked with DHEC dietetic staff in identifying and counseling overweight and obese children.
“Her sensitivity to nutritional issues and her encouragement for the patient to seek individual nutrition counseling has helped families to focus on nutritional needs,” Hunter said. “It’s interventions like these that can make a tremendous difference in the health and well-being of the patient.”
Hunter said the criteria for the award include length of service, personal qualities, and accomplishments or activities that are consistent with outstanding service by a physician.
