Press Release:

COLUMBIA - People who want to take the qualifying examination for licensure as a hearing aid specialist have until Sept. 7 to submit an application and fee to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, the agency announced today.

DHEC's Division of Health Licensing will give the written portion of the examination on Sept. 22. Those who pass the written portion of the examination will be given the practical portion on Nov. 10. Applicants must pass both portions to qualify for licensure.

"Anyone, including temporary permit holders or those who previously took the examination and did not pass, may apply to take the examination," said Chris Stephens of DHEC's Division of Health Licensing. "Anyone who fits and sells hearing aids, other than a South Carolina licensed medical doctor or audiologist, must possess a current hearing aid specialist license or temporary permit issued by DHEC."

Those who wish to take the examination should contact Stephens at (803) 545-4228, or via e-mail at: stephecb@dhec.sc.gov.
