Columbia -- Julie Hershey, of Greer, has been appointed to serve on the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (EOC).

 

Hershey, Regional Director of Heritage Community Services’ Upstate office, has been appointed to serve as Governor Mark Sanford’s designee to the committee. She fills the seat previously held by Michael Brenan, who now serves as the Governor’s Business representative to the committee.

 

A native of Michigan, Hershey attended Grand Rapids College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She has served as Regional Director at Heritage since 1999. Prior to that, she worked as an auditor for Ford Motor Credit Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  

 

Active in community and government affairs, Hershey served as a trustee for Anderson University from 2002 to 2007. She served on Greenville County School Board from 1992 to 1996. She also served on the Governor’s Education Task Force from 2003 to 2004 and was a member of the Governor’s Math and Science Advisory Board from 1994 to 1997.

Hershey has been married for 30 years to Ray Hershey and has three children and two grandchildren.   

 

The SC Education Oversight Committee is an independent, non-partisan group made up of 18 educators, business persons, and elected leaders. Created in 1998, the committee is dedicated to reporting facts, measuring change, and promoting progress within South Carolina’s education system.
