EDITOR’S NOTE: The EOC held a full committee meeting February 11, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. in Room 433, Blatt Building. The election of vice-chair occurred at this meeting.

 

Columbia – Dr. Kristi V. Woodall, an educator from Union, has been elected as the new Vice-Chair of the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (EOC), a term which will begin immediately. Woodall fills the expired term of Alex Martin, an educator from Greenville.

 

Woodall, Director of Personnel in Spartanburg School District Two, was appointed to serve as the House Education and Public Works Committee’s education representative to the EOC in February 2007. The appointment was made by Representative Bob Walker, Chairman of the House committee and also an EOC member.  

 

Woodall received her B.A. in Biology from Furman University. She received her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Clemson University and her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from S.C. State University.

 

Prior to her position in the school district office, Woodall served as the Principal of Union High School, from 2003 to 2006. During that time, she also served as the SC District 16 appointee to the State Board of Education. In 2006, Woodall was recognized as the Nationally Distinguished South Carolina Secondary Principal of the Year. Woodall began her career in education as a biology teacher in Charleston, Greenville, and Fort Mill School Districts. She was named Teacher of the Year at Garrett Academy of Technology in 1996.

 

Active in community affairs, Woodall is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA), the Rotary Club of Downtown Spartanburg, the University of South Carolina Upstate Education Department Advisory Board, the United Way Community Impact Council, and the Medical Alliances of SC and Union County.

 

Woodall is married to Dr. Timothy Woodall, a dermatologist practicing in Rock Hill, SC. Their children are Spencer, 5, and Mae Hollins, 2.

 

The SC Education Oversight Committee is an independent, non-partisan group made up of 18 educators, business persons, and elected leaders. Created in 1998, the committee is dedicated to reporting facts, measuring change, and promoting progress within South Carolina’s education system.
