Press Release:

(Columbia, SC)  A Darlington man has been charged with illegally selling more than $6000 worth of timber.  Forestry Commission officers Wednesday arrested Illya Aloysius Hall, 32, for felony timber theft.

Officers say that earlier this year Hall was renting a house on a wooded three-acre property on Smith Avenue in Darlington.  Without permission of the property owner, he allegedly sold the timber to a local logger and pocketed the money.

Hall was booked into the Darlington County Detention Center.  If convicted, he could be facing up to ten years in prison.

South Carolina landowners lose millions of dollars each year to timber theft and timber fraud.  Timber transaction crimes should be reported to Forestry Commission law enforcement, 803-896-8820.
