FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 11, 2006
(Columbia, SC) A free workshop, “Energy and Society,” is being offered to upstate teachers in grades 4-12. Sponsored by Project Learning Tree-SC and Duke Power, the workshop is scheduled for July 24.
According to Project Learning Tree Coordinator Jerry Shrum, the workshop will provide lesson material that explores energy use and environmental issues. Each participant will receive a PLT Energy and Society teacher’s kit, including a teacher’s guide, a music CD, a dance video, and a poster set.
Energy and Society is one of the newest teaching modules from Project Learning Tree, an international environmental education system. PLT activities are designed to stimulate critical and creative thinking, rather than simply imparting facts.
The workshop will be held at Duke Power’s Oconee Nuclear Station visitors center in Seneca. Applicants must pre-register by contacting Shrum at 803-896-8892 or by e-mail at jshrum@forestry.state.sc.us.
