(Columbia, SC) A woman accused in a Mt. Croghan timber case could be facing up to ten years in prison. Forestry Commission agents Tuesday arrested Bonnie Knight, 24, on charges of felony timber theft.
Agents said Knight was renting a house situated on a 20-acre wooded tract in Mt. Croghan. Without permission from the owner, she allegedly sold more than $11,000 worth of timber from the property to a local logger.
Knight, a mother with small children, now lives in North Carolina. She was released on a $5000 personal recognizance bond.
Timber theft and timber fraud cost SC forest landowners millions of dollars each year. Timber crimes should be reported to Forestry Commission law enforcement, 803-896-8820.
