FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 9, 2007; 4:00 p.m.

(Columbia, SC)  The Forestry Commission has lifted the Red Flag Fire Alert for most South Carolina counties.  Several counties in the Piedmont region remain under a Red Flag Alert until further notice.  Those counties are:  Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York.

While fire danger has diminished statewide, a significant fire in Pickens County means resources in that region would be further stretched should another fire develop.

All South Carolina Counties not listed above are no longer under Red Flag Alert Status.

Since this most recent Alert was issued, Forestry Commission firefighters have responded to more than 100 wildfires statewide.
