Lexington Arson Suspect Indicted

(Columbia, SC)  A Lexington County Grand Jury this week returned indictments against a man accused in a woods arson spree last fall.  Facing trial is 20 year-old Billy Frank Cornett, Jr., charged with three counts of illegal fire-setting.Mugshot of Billy Cornett

According to reports, firefighters became suspicious of Cornett after responding to three successive woods fires near Red Bank on October 5.  Cornett was present at all three fire scenes.

Forestry Commission agents arrested Cornett on October 9.  During questioning he acknowledged starting the fires.

Cornett has been held in the Lexington County Detention Center since his arrest.
