Press Release:

(Columbia, SC)  Forestry Commission officers are stepping up patrols of Harbison State Forest. According to Harbison Director James Miller, the effort will focus on safety and increased compliance with forest use regulations.

Miller said additional officers will be on duty throughout the forest on May 20 and again on May 27.  “We’ll talk to visitors, check use permits, and answer questions about the state forest,”  he said.

Forest regulations require use permits for vehicle parking; cyclists must carry a trail permit on their person while riding the trails.   The permit fees are used to maintain the forest’s public facilities.  Other regulations prohibit alcoholic beverages and require leashes on pets.

Violation of state forest regulations can result in fines and fees of up to $465.
