BLACKVILLE, SC – The Fall Watermelon and Vegetable Field Day will be held at the Edisto Research and Education Center in Blackville on September 6, 2007. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The morning programs will include: Beef Cattle, Peanut and Precision Agriculture Updates. Lunch will be provided from Noon to 1:00 p.m.
Following lunch, the Watermelon and Vegetable portion of the Field Day will begin in the auditorium. Final results of the following projects will be provided and discussed: Seedless Watermelon Variety Trial; Mini-watermelon Variety Trial; Hollow Heart in Watermelon Trial; Grafted Watermelon Rootstock Trial; Grafted Watermelon Density Trial; and Organic Watermelon Production Trial.
The Watermelon and Vegetable portion of the field day will then move to the field. At the field the following will be viewed: Fall Pumpkin Variety Trial (8 medium to large and 8 medium to small Pumpkins); Fall Seedless Watermelon Variety Trial; Fall Mini-watermelon Variety Trial; Nutrient and Water Applications for double-cropped Bell Peppers; Fall Organic double-cropped Bell Peppers; and Virus Resistance in selected gourd plants for grafted watermelons.
The Watermelon and Vegetable Tour is expected to conclude at 3:30 p.m. Continuing Re-certification hours for Pesticide License and CCA certification hours will be available.
