Library Named Service Group of the Year
Columbia, SC – The Union County Carnegie Library (UCCL), recently named Best Small Library in America by Library Journal, was also named the Service Group of the Year by the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
Jennifer Alexander, chair of the library’s Board of Trustees, invited Nancy Rosenwald, library director, to the Chamber’s recent annual member banquet. Rosenwald was in for a surprise. Alexander was aware of the award being presented to the library but managed to keep it a secret. Rosenwald was busy contemplating the previous award winner and how well disserved it was, when she realized that everyone was looking at her and applauding.
Rosenwald stated that the award, which is “focused on transformation of service is a huge honor for the staff since this is the first honor given the library from within the county in recognition of the Best Small Library in America award from Library Journal.”
According to the UCCL web site, the library is the learning center for the community and is the place people choose to explore ideas, the power of information and the pleasure of reading. The library’s collections, programs and services reflect community needs and requests which are offered in a welcoming, convenient and responsive manner.
