The voters of South Carolina elect nine constitutional officers within the executive branch:

The legislative branch consists of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The House of Representatives is the larger chamber in the general assembly. It consists of 124 members, who are part-time legislators. Each legislative district has its own representative, who serves a two-year term. To serve in the House, a representative must meet several qualifications: They must be a citizen of South Carolina, must be a resident of the district in which they are elected and must be at least 21 years old at the time they are elected.

The second chamber of the legislature is the Senate. It is made up of 46 members, who each represent a district of approximately the same population as those of all other senators. Each senator serves a four-year term. To serve as a senator, an individual must be a citizen of the United States and South Carolina, must reside in the district in which they are elected and must be at least 25 years old at the time they are elected.
